in my original statement, I was not referring to any particular individual. Then the ship was bought in April 1928 a man whom I knew as Pun Pau Sang at No .81 Bonham Strand West, gave me all necessary orders about the ship. He died about the beginning of June. I received orders from a number of persons at the same address. after his death but I cannot say who was the actual manager or what the names of the persons who gave me orders were. No one person seemed to have authority over the others. In my opinion they were all sharehold- ers and had to consult each other. Cheung Cheung signed Articles as supercargo and travelled on the ship. I believe he came from Canton because while the ship was being refitted he returned to Canton two or three times. Thile the ship was running he lived on board even when in port here.
It is now my impression that the principals in this smuggling syndicate travelled on the ship. I mean the compradore and the supercargoes. I have no reason to believe that Pun Pau Sang's family knew of the secret compartment on board the ship. Pun Fau Sang himself, I think, did know but he died before the ship commenced running.
15th November, 1928.
